English soldiers running away from Iraq war.

During the past three years more than 1000 British soldiers have deserted and absconded from their duty in Iraq. There has been a manifold increase in the rate of deserting soldiers from active duty in the conquered territory of Iraq where USA and UK joined hands to bomb, maim, kill and massacre thousands of innocent civilians to restore their brand of democracy in Iraq. The world however keeps pondering about the naked truth of so many other Arab states being ruled by absolute monarchs or emirs like in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE, and others. Perhaps Bush, Blair and their masters, Israel, don’t think of those monarchies and autocratic rules as a threat to their democratic values. This remains a wide open question in the minds and hearts of people the world over. Recently a court martial sentenced a Royal air-force (RAF) doctor to 8 month imprisonment when he refused to join duty in Iraq. This has caused an uproar in the British media and world press. But ironically reports and news like this never find the lime light which other ‘victory’ news have been given ever since the war for the restoration of democracy in Iraq has started. The problems of refusing soldiers has gained momentum in recent months as the futility of the ’cause’ has become registered in the hearts and minds of American people also. Not only the British but the major killing force of USA is facing problems.

Families of the U.S. soldiers being investigated have said that the forces considered the mission too dangerous. At least some of the soldiers have been cited as saying that they refused the mission because their vehicles were in poor shape and they did not have an adequate armed escort.

Teresa Hill of Dothan, Alabama, said that her daughter Amber McClenny, who serves in the platoon, had phoned on Thursday morning to ask for her help, saying that her platoon had refused to go on a fuel-hauling convoy.

“This is a real, real big emergency,” Ms McClenny said. “I need you to contact someone. I mean, raise pure hell.”

“We had broken-down trucks, non-armored vehicles and … we were carrying contaminated fuel.

“They are holding us against our will. We are now prisoners,” she added.

Hill said that she was later contacted by Spc. Tammy Reese in Iraq, who was calling families of the soldiers. “She told me (Amber) was being held in a tent with armed guards,” said Hill, who spoke with her daughter Friday afternoon after she was freed. Her daughter said they are facing punishment ranging from a reprimand to a charge of mutiny.

The supply route that the troops were supposed to use is one of the most dangerous in Iraq. The army calls it “Main Supply Route Tampa.” Many troops have been attacked there by roadside bombs and rifle and rocket-propelled grenade fire.

A commanding general has ordered the unit to carry out a “safety-maintenance stand down,” during which it will carry out no further missions as the unit’s vehicles are inspected, the army said.

On Wednesday, 19 members of the platoon did not show up for the 7 a.m. meeting in Tallil, to get ready for the fuel convoy’s departure a few hours later, the military statement said.

“An initial report indicated that some of the 19 soldiers (not all) refused to participate in the convoy as directed,” the statement said.

The mission was ultimately carried out by other soldiers from the 343rd, which has at least 120 soldiers, the military said.

“Preliminary findings indicate that there were several contributing factors that led to the late convoy incident and alleged refusal to participate by some soldiers,” the military said. “It would be inappropriate to discuss those factors while the investigation continues.”

A member of parliament (MP) of British legislature told the house of commons last week that that there has been at least a three fold increase in the number of soldiers deserting the army because they didn’t want to serve in Iraq. There has been a steady rise also in the number of personnel who are in active consultation with their lawyers to avoid going to this war which has no moral grounds for the world and Britain in particular. It has been observed that all the efforts of hiding the truth by the predominant American media, the anarchy and unrest in Iraq is on the rise and death tolls of coalition forces is rising at an alarmingly pace. This of course is not what Israel, America or UK had in mind when they tried to convince the world that their mission is noble and restricted to restoration of democracy.
